Children and Adolescents Ages 2 through 19 Years
"The prevalence of untreated or restored dental caries in children and adolescents ages 2 through 19
years is 46 percent, with significant differences by age, family income as a percent of the federal poverty
level, and race and/or ethnicity...and is highest among adolescents ages 12 through 19 years (56%) compared to children ages 6 through 11 years (48 percent) and children ages 2 through 5 year (22 percent)."
Disparities Persist
Prevalence is highest in poorest children and adolescents (54 percent) and lowest in wealthiest (36%)
"Hispanic and/or Latino children and adolescents have a significantly higher prevalence of dental
caries (55 percent) compared to those who are non-Hispanic White (43 percent), non-Hispanic Black (42
percent), and non-Hispanic Asian (47 percent)."
Adults and Older Adults Ages 20 Years and Older
Prevalence is significantly higher among older poor adults (28 percent) compared to non-poor (17 percent). It's 3% among older adults with a college degree or above compared to those with less than a high school diploma (32 percent) or some college (15 percent).
The prevalence is lowest among older adults with a college degree(s) (3 percent) compared to those with less than high school diploma (32 percent) or with a high school diploma or some college (15 percent).
