Tooth decay increased in fluoridation Mandated Kentucky


"Fewer than half of Kentucky's 2,265 licensed dentists accepted Medicaid patients in 2004....

And one result is that only one in five Kentucky children on Medicaid sees a dentist each year, and about half of Kentucky's preschool children have untreated dental decay. ...
A 2001 survey by the University of Kentucky found nearly half of Kentucky's children ages 2 to 4 have untreated dental decay -- about twice the national average.

Kentucky also has one of the highest rates in the nation of adults over 65 with no teeth."

Localities told to make fluoride fixes:

Cities in Virginia "Fluoride levels were 4.7 milligrams per liter in parts of Smithfield and as high as 6.01 milligrams per liter in the Holland area of Suffolk in 2005."

"'I see so many kids in this county with horrible-looking teeth,' Schlaudecker said.

'My concern is for the children, and the parents don't understand how bad the water is,' she said.

'These kids are going to have ugly teeth for the rest of their lives.'

Schlaudecker, who lives in Gatling Pointe South, received a high-fluoride notice from the county, but she couldn't understand it."
